“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education. ”

President Eugene
Silas Eugene served as Treasurer before being elected President for the 2024–2025 program year. His administration marked the beginning of a new chapter for the Kappa League of Fort Lauderdale, one that challenged Leaguers to become active participants in their own development rather than simply attend meetings and activities.
Under his leadership, Leaguers were given greater responsibility to lead discussions, deliver presentations, and contribute to the overall success of the chapter. The administration expanded opportunities for leadership, career exploration, regional collaboration, and experiential learning while encouraging students to take greater ownership of their growth.
Highlights of the Eugene Administration
Introduced the chapter's first overnight leadership retreat, which later evolved into Kappa Kamp: Convivia.
Revived Field Day and inter-league competition, which later evolved into Kappa Kamp: Inter-League Challenge.
Expanded aviation, public safety, government, and career exploration experiences.
Participated in Leaguers at the Capitol, helping inspire future civic leadership programming.
Established the annual Turkey Giveaway partnership with Pompano Beach Kappa League.
Strengthened regional collaboration through the One Kappa League initiative.
Began transitioning meetings from advisor-led to Leaguer-led, with students taking greater responsibility for presentations, discussions, and chapter operations.
Introduced Robert's Rules of Order as part of preparing Leaguers to lead and conduct meetings.
Honors & Recognition
The Eugene Administration achieved several historic firsts for the chapter.
Third Place — Southern Province Jay Crosby Award (Program of the Year)
Third Place — Southern Province Leon Stewart Award (Silas Eugene)
These awards marked the first time the Kappa League of Fort Lauderdale received recognition at the Southern Province level.
Legacy
The Eugene Administration is remembered for introducing the shift from attendance to engagement and beginning the transition toward a student-led model.
Rather than measuring success by who showed up, the administration increasingly emphasized participation, contribution, leadership, and ownership. Many of the experiences, traditions, and developmental concepts that continue to shape the chapter today can trace their roots to this period.
Historical Note:
The Eugene Administration was the final administration in which all Cabinet positions were independently elected by the membership.
